Mistakes commonly made when building rapport

Publicado el 4 March, 2019

At Waixo, we always try to be completely faithful to your requests. But there are mistakes that can hinder the process. Therefore, we have decided to write this post describing the errors that are usually made when preparing and sending files. Let's get started!

Check the borders!

White borders are not always as obvious as we think. They are not noticeable at first glance and that can make us think that we have cropped them perfectly. But when repeating the pattern, there they are to spoil any good design. Therefore, it is necessary to zoom in on the document as much as possible to ensure that it is cut to the limit and save ourselves from a disappointment.

When it doesn't fit...

Before, we saw the consequences of cutting too little; now we will see what happens when cutting too much. As we can see in the following photo, a good repetition could not be made because it doesn't fit completely. This is because by cutting too much, part of the drawing has been lost. Therefore, it is better to ensure that it has been done properly. It is also possible that when making the repeat, the horizontal or vertical repetition of it was not taken into account. So it is possible that we find a pattern that repeats correctly in only one direction. You can find here a guide on the process to follow so you don't miss any important steps.

Check the size

When starting from a photograph, we often don't notice the actual size of the pattern. It's not uncommon to create a repeat and find, either a pattern smaller than expected, or on the contrary, much larger. Therefore, it's always good to check it before sending. To do this, in Photoshop, go to the top menu and click on "Image" and "Image Size". There you will find the exact measurements of our pattern and you can get an idea of how it will look once printed. Otherwise, you can also check in the JPEG properties.

Which format?

At Waixo, we use specific programs for textile printing that prevent us from uploading certain types of files. To prevent these types of situations, we always recommend saving in JPEG or PDF format.

The color

Those of you who regularly work with programs like Photoshop or Illustrator will be well aware of the problems caused by something as simple as color. At Waixo, we suffer from them just like you do! Common elements such as the chosen fabric, or the machinery needed for printing, can cause the original color palette to be altered. Therefore, we always advise acquiring our color chart before selecting a color. If you wish to create a pattern, we recommend ordering a preliminary sample to see the result on the fabric itself.
