Cotton fabrics: Twill, Viyella, Voile and Poplin
Publicado el 29 January, 2019
Let's talk about our most demanded cotton fabrics: twill, viyella fabric, voile, and poplin. In this post, we'll examine their characteristics, uses, and other properties that make these fabrics highly utilized in the textile industry and could help you choose one for your next collection. Don't miss any details!
Twill
The twill fabric features a soft diagonal pattern that gives it an interesting and characteristic texture. The technique used to weave twill makes this fabric slightly thick and resistant, making it ideal for crafting outerwear – such as trench coats or Saharan jackets – or even workwear, blankets, or the typical kilts of Scottish men's attire. Twill is also a fabric that insulates air very well, is slightly water-resistant, and doesn't wrinkle easily. Its strength and dense nature also make it suitable for home textiles for upholstering cushions or napkins.

It's important to highlight that our twill is an Öeko-Tex 100 certified fabric, issued by the AITEX research center, with a weight of 195 g/m2 and a width of 160 cm. As you can see in our sample book, colors adhere perfectly to the cotton fiber thanks to the direct digital printing technology we use at Waixo.
Viyella Fabric
Viyella fabric is originally made from cotton and wool and has a thickness that makes it ideal for winter. Its name comes from the city where it was born, becoming a registered trademark by the British firm that began to manufacture it by hand in 1784 and eventually also sold blouses, shirts, and robes due to the success of this fabric. Today, we can see it in the manufacture of children's clothing, as well as in shirts, suits, pants, or pajamas for winter. If there's one thing to highlight about Viyella, it's undoubtedly its natural finish after the printing process, as well as its good color fixation, drape, and ease of sewing and ironing. So if you're interested in Viyella and want to feel it in person, don't forget to order our sample book, where you'll also find 20 other interesting fabrics along with this Viyella Moscow.

As for our Viyella, its 140 g/m2 and its entirely cotton composition make it especially suitable for winter garments, as this fabric is capable of providing warmth even in the coldest environments. If you want to know the rates for this fabric, visit the prices on our website.
Voile
The softness and lightness of our voile fabric (which you can find as Cupid & Voile), along with its semi-transparent finish, make it a fabric suitable for making tops, for both women and men, particularly dresses, shirts, blouses, and sarongs. Furthermore, since it is made entirely of cotton, it can also be used for children's and baby clothing. It is also very common for use in home textiles and in the manufacture of curtains, which, along with its ability to be printed, make it a fully customizable alternative.

Poplin
If you're thinking of launching a shirt collection, it's most likely that poplin fabric will be among your options. It's a fabric that provides a truly excellent finish, and its slightly stiff and crisp texture helps achieve better ironing, also contributing to the garment having an impeccable appearance, as it doesn't wrinkle easily.

Poplin originated in France during the 15th century in Avignon to create papal vestments. This fact caught our attention at Waixo, and we decided to transfer it to our poplin fabric, naming it Poplin Verona. If you have any questions about this or any of our other fabrics, don't hesitate to write to us at info@waixo.com or call us at +94 466 67 91.
