Trick or treat! Discover simple ways to create your Halloween costumes
Publicado el 28 October, 2025
One of the most chilling holidays of the year is approaching! Have you already planned your costume? If not, don't worry, at Waixo we'll give you simple and original ideas to be the queen of the party!
Tulle Skirt

Materials:
- Scissors.
- Ribbon or elastic.
- Colored tulle or different patterns.
If you want to make a simple garment and save yourself the hassle of sewing and patterning, you've found it! For this skirt, you only need a ribbon and tulle.
Simply get a ribbon that is larger than your waist circumference, as it will serve as the closure for our skirt. Customize your tulle with various colors and patterns, and cut several rectangles.
Once this is done, you can tie the rectangles to the ribbon to create the skirt. You will need enough rectangles to cover the entire ribbon and not leave gaps.
You can also do this process with elastic instead of a ribbon. In this case, you will have to subtract a few centimeters from the waist circumference so that it fits better and close it with a stitch in a circle. Then you just tie the tulle just like with the ribbon.

Now all that's left is to tie it around your waist and show off your colorful skirt!
Pumpkin Costume

Materials:
- Scissors.
- Paper.
- Pencil.
- Fabric of your choice (Preferably a non-fraying fabric. If it frays, you'll need bias tape or to make each piece twice as a lining).
To create this costume, you won't need much time. You only need a thin fabric like our Microfiber or the Storm Thin Fabric. But it's best to use a fabric that doesn't fray easily for this design, like the Microfiber Swing. This way, you won't need to hem your garment.
In this case, we will need a pattern to make our costume. First, we will prepare a semi-circumference with half of our head circumference, as we must leave enough space for the costume to fit correctly.
Then, from that circumference, we will mark the desired length, forming another semi-circumference to which we will add some points to give our costume a touch. This pattern will be double as we want to avoid any seams in the process. It will be placed on folded fabric to achieve the full circle. If it's not possible due to its size, we will have to cut the pattern twice and join them with a seam.
Finally, we perform the same process with the neckline, this time completing the circle. If you prefer, you can make the semi-circumference instead and follow the same process as the base garment.
Cape with Tie

It's one of those classics that will never disappoint, besides protecting you from rain or cold. This model is a bit more complex than the previous one as we will need some seams to finish it properly. But don't worry! You'll see that it's not complicated at all.
Materials:
- Scissors.
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Fabric double-sided tape (optional)
- Paper.
- Pencil.
- Ribbon or string for closure.
- Fabric of your choice (Preferably a non-fraying fabric. If it frays, you'll need bias tape or to make a hem).
The measurements we'll take are the neck circumference and the desired length. From the center of the paper, we'll create a semi-circumference that measures our neck circumference + 4 cm in case we need to hem our cape later (2 cm on each side).
Then, for the final circumference, we repeat the process but with the desired length. At this point, depending on the fabric you use, you will have to add at least 2 cm more for a hem in case it frays. Another option is to sew bias tape and hide the fraying.
To finish the collar, we will take the shape of our base pattern and calculate a length of 5 cm. This will leave us with a 2 cm collar to pass the ribbon through later. You can make it longer if you wish. We advise you to mark each fold as indicated in the image to facilitate the process of joining the pieces.

To join the pieces, you can do it with a sewing machine, and if you're not very fond of it, we're going to reveal a sewing miracle to you: fabric double-sided tape!
Simply place the tape on the edge of the collar's circumference and remove the protection. Remember that you have to stick it 0.5 cm from the edge so that only that measurement adheres!
Now, carefully overlap both collars of the two pieces to glue the previously marked half-centimeter. If you use a machine or sew it by hand, we will simply sew 0.5 cm from the edge. Then, we will turn our piece already attached to the cape and fold it at the 2 cm mark. That is our collar height where the ribbon will go! Now, we fold again at the next two-centimeter mark and place it inside the collar to fix it. If we sew, we will finish on this fold as close to the edge as we can.

Now, with the help of a hairpin, we will thread our ribbon through, and our cape is ready! If desired, we can secure the ribbon so that it doesn't move by finishing the end of the collar on both sides.
