What is Microfiber Fabric? – All Types & Uses

Publicado el 8 June, 2021

Microfiber is a synthetic fiber usually composed of polyester and is widely used in the textile world for making sports and beach towels, men's swimsuits, or as cleaning material. It is characterized by the threads used in its manufacturing, which are one hundred times finer than human hair.

What are its characteristics?

Microfiber fabric  has several characteristics that make it the best option for manufacturing textile materials:

  • Its great versatility. It is mainly used in towels or cleaning material. However, there are microfiber fabrics that, due to their softness and lightness, can even be used in making handkerchiefs or textile garments such as swimwear.
  • High resistance. Thanks to its composition, this fabric resists better to possible abrasions or scuffs. In addition, it preserves better than any other fabric after continuous washing.
  • Great absorbency. It can absorb twice as much as a cotton fabric while still maintaining its lightness and shape.
  • Much faster drying than natural fibers like cotton.

Types of Microfiber fabric and possible uses

Depending on the type of product you want to make, there are Microfibers of different textures and shapes. At Waixo, for example, you can find two references for different uses:

  • With our Recycled Microfiber of 110gr you can make textile garments such as men's swimsuits or even handkerchiefs. It has a lower grammage and thanks to its soft and light appearance, all kinds of textile garments can be made, especially those aimed at sports.
