Environmentally Friendly Fabrics - The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification complements the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and allows us to guarantee that textile materials are recycled while respecting environmental and social criteria. At least 20% of the fibers are recycled.
The production of textile fabrics has a great impact on the environment for many reasons. One of them is the low percentage of recycled fabrics that are still produced. -It is already possible to manufacture fabrics from discarded materials such as PET or polyester, which are recycled to give a second life to materials that would otherwise take a long time to degrade. -Today we want to share with you some curiosities and advantages of the rising recycled fabrics that have come to upholstery.
Recycled PET fabrics. These are fabrics made from the plastics that we discard in increasing quantities. Usually, they are also what are known as "single-use plastics." The aim is to give a second life to this material that is so harmful to the environment. The raw material, in this case, plastic waste from the oceans, is collected.
Thus, not only are some plastics given a second life, the rest are removed from the oceans. It is cleaned. This is a contribution to highlight, as not all plastics collected are used to make fabrics. Therefore, after collection, plastic bottles, which are the raw material for this fabric, must be separated. To obtain yarn, the bottles are broken into small pieces that are also heated to turn them into flakes. From that yarn, fabrics will be produced that will be used for both clothing and decoration. When you choose a fabric made with recycled PET, you contribute to reducing the environmental impact caused by this material. You have also avoided obtaining something manufactured from non-renewable natural resources.
